Canary Island- El Hierro

El Hierro ist he smallest of the Canary Islands, found on the south-western end of the archipelago.
The island of El Hierro has beautiful landscapes, fertile soils and several forest of pine, giant beech and Canary Junipers. Alhough the last eruption was over 200 years ago, El Hierro has the highest volcano density in the Canary Islands with more than one thousand craters up in the mountains.
The coast of El Hierro is rocky and harsh, with inaccessible cliffs up to more tham 1000 metres.
The island offers a mild climate with temperatures on the coast range from 19 degrees C and 23 degrees C.
There are no long distances on the island but the mountainous terrain makes it difficult to go around in just one day so we recommend you to stay several days and plan your excursions day by day.
The Capital of the island of El Hierro is Valverde.
The island´s economy is based on livestock breeding, farming, fishing and tourism.
El Hierro can be accessed by plane from Tenerife, La Palma or Gran Canaria or by ferry from Tenerife or La Gomera.
El Hierro is classified by the UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve
