Garajonay National Park
The National Park of Garajonay covers the central peaks of the island of
La Gomera. It was adesignated a national park in 1981, and in 1986 the UNESCO included it on the list of
World Heritage sites. It merits the highest category of protection. For most of the year the park is covered in a blanket of clouds, which adds a magical touch to the laurisilva woods, the last surviving examples of this plant species which covered the Mediterranean area in the Tertiary period. The park can also be visited by taking guided tours which are organised by the Juego de Blas visitor centre in Agulo.
